Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
The 2018 Teroldego is a rich, striking wine. Deep purple in color, it offers aromas of burnt crème, toasted coconut, blackberry, earth, plum and dried oregano. A rich entry leads to a dense midpalate and a long finish of velvety tannins and plum.

Vineyard Notes
Teroldego (pronounced teh-ROHL-deh-goh) is a red Italian grape variety grown almost exclusively in the Alto Adige DOC region of northeastern Italy. It is renowned for its deeply pigmented color and intensely fruity character, and thrives in the gravelly soils of the Rotaliano Valley in this alpine region. Terra d’Oro’s Burke Ranch, with its similarly rocky, shallow soil, is also an excellent match for this esoteric variety.
Production Notes
The winemakers at Terra d’Oro appreciate the complexity and colossal characteristics of the Teroldego variety and take great care to minimize the extraction of harsh tannins. Grapes for the 2018 Terra d’Oro Teroldego were hand picked and destemmed, lightly crushed and fermented in half-ton, open-top bins. The tanks were inoculated and fermented at a relatively cool, steady pace and were punched down by hand daily.
Winemaker Notes
This varietal requires a gentle touch to maintain its complexity and striking balance of fruit and acid. The grapes were hand picked at night, lightly crushed and then fermented in stainless steel. The wine underwent gentle pumpovers for ideal tannin extraction and flavor development. After gentle pressing and racking, the wine was aged in French and American oak barrels (25% new), for 13 months.
Food Pairing Notes
This rare varietal is a stunning complement to wild game and virtually any smoked meat.
