Tasting Notes
The Terra d’Oro 2018 School House Road Vineyard Field Blend Zinfandel entices with warm,
inviting aromas of Rainier cherry, vanilla bean, clove, raspberry preserves, violets, blueberry
and pastry notes.
Vineyard Notes
Our School House Road Zinfandel is a modern take on the classic field blend. To create well balanced
wines, Italian immigrants planted vines in California based on their knowledge of which
grapes grew well together. Today, many Zinfandel vineyards are still planted alongside Petite
Sirah, carignan or even white grape varieties. In 1996, we planted a vineyard to pay homage to
that heritage, but with a modern twist: 80% Zinfandel, 13% Petite Sirah and 7% Barbera.
Production Notes
We harvest and co-ferment all three varieties together, forging unique aroma and flavor combinations
that could not be duplicated by blending after fermentation.
Winemaker Notes
The fruit from this vineyard was handpicked at night, fermented in half-ton bins and punched
down by hand throughout fermentation. The wine underwent malolactic fermentation and was
aged in French oak barrels (24% new) for 11 months.
Food Pairing Notes
A generous palate of velvety tannins lead to a dense mid-palate and a long,
lingering finish. This Zinfandel is the perfect foil for lamb kabobs with roasted root vegetables.
